5 kick-ass tips on traffic generation for newbies

Ok, hello once again folks. I am a little stiff in the shoulders from homework and deadlines, but I thought that I would at least post another little tid-bit of traffic generation to you newbies out there. Well your site, like mine has enjoyed a small amount of success (all $1.26 of it) And you think it's time to open up the site full throttle and have the people pouring in like no tomorrow. You set up your site, and do everything correctly and within no time you are up to 10,000 hit a day. (and you are faar better than me!) but I am happy with just 100 a day. (ok, not happy, but it's better than 0) So let's look at some of these 'kick-ass' tips that are going to start pouring into the site:

#1) New guy. This tip is for the people who have just started. So you have set up the site, and now want to get traffic coming in. Well the best tip for you is to let everyone know that you are out there. (duhh). The place to go for a start are sites. The more famous of these types of sites are , , and These are the big names one out there. If you can get top listing with these sites, you will probably be looking at least 5,000 hits a day. I can't get that lucky. But for starters, here is a listing of some of the other bookmarking sites out there.

#2) Proper tagging of your blogs. Ok, we have heard of this time and time again. Actually, I think it is like imprinted into the phycie of all bloggers. But you have to figure out that you are not the only fish out there. Actually, there are about 1.2 billion other blogs out there trying for the same traffic as you. So one of the best ways to get an edge on the other guys out there is to tag your posts with some of the top keywords. These are words that are 'hot' topics that many users will be searching on. For example will have more people looking for it than . (But this is a temporary thing, remember I will succeed!) If you want to know how to properly tag your posts or site for Technorati, or other sites, check this out here: Technorati help: Tags. You should always try to keep your tags updated with fresh material that people would be interested in searching.

#3) Porn!! Yup that's right smear your whole web site with images of women with midget circus clowns riding farm animals! Everyone knows that the Internet was made for porn!!

#3) Gimmie what I want!
- ok, that last one was not the most ethical tip out there. However sadly true it is.
But we still need to follow this concept. Ok, not the midget circus clown. I am talking about giving the people what they want, multimedia. If you have images, or movies or mp3 files that normally reside on your site, use some of the social bookmarking sites out there to expand you traffic reach. Places like and God knows how many more that are out there. This will expand your reach further than it would be with blogs alone.

#4) Search me! Like the social bookmarking sites there are other ways to be in the public's eye. One of these is to get listed with the blog search engines out there. Blogdex, and . These are just some of the top names out there for this. I doubt it will generate thousands of hits a day, but any little help is still help in the long run.

#5) Plug me in! One thing that might not generate the traffic instantly, but would probably make life a little bit easier is to use plug-ins to their full advantage. There are many plugins that people use for their blogs or sites, that either generate tags automatically, or update social bookmarking sites with their new content. And probably a thousand other things that they can do. Here is an example of something along these lines (this is only relevent for blog users, blogger and other types can't use this particular plugin) WordPress Plugin for traffic increase .

And of course here is a listing of some veterans of the blogging and traffic building world.
